Enhancing Your Image.

Today, an argument could be made that architects are moving away from the use of natural stone in building construction in favor of cheaper and/or greener materials. With the development of steel products, improvements in the strength of wood, and creation of low cost fabricated stones one could assume that the use of natural stone would be on the decline. However, as was the case throughout history, natural stone is still selected to convey wealth, grandeur, and security. Stone is a natural, durable and environmentally friendly product. By naturally polishing stone, one can greatly enhance its aesthetic appearance, increasing its longevity, and reduce the cost of maintenance. In reality the use of natural stone hasn't changed at all. It's still used to enhance image and make a statement of distinction.

Sustainability and Historic Preservation.

There are four key criteria architects and building owners must deal with today when working with Sustainable Design and Historic Preservation. Bella Scena Ltd. helps architects and building owners achieve these key criteria through the process of naturally polishing stone and terrazzo.

  1. Improve Daylight Use
  • Naturally polishing stone and terrazzo floors lightens the floor and creates reflectivity which enhances the efficient use of daylight and reduces the amount of energy used to illuminate a room.
  1. Improve Indoor Air Quality
  • Our preservation process eliminates the use of all waxes and chemicals that release harmful carcinogens and volatile organic compounds (VOC) that are inherent to many floor coatings and strippers.
  1. Improve Material Efficiency & Durability
  • By eliminating wax, longevity of stone or terrazzo is increased. This is true do to the fact that wax often traps dirt, grit, and salts that are then ground into the stone as people walk across the floors. By naturally polishing floors, these destructive agents are removed thereby reducing the energy needed to maintain the Material.
  1. Improve Resource Conservation
  • If natural stone and terrazzo are preserved and cared for in the correct manner they will last forever. It is no surprise that the world's oldest buildings, monuments, and historical artifacts are all made of natural stone.

Improving Your Building's Environment.

The mission of Bella Scena Ltd. goes beyond the improvement of the aesthetics of a building to include the optimization of the functioning and well being of the environment within the building. John Lanzafame leads a management team at Bella Scena Ltd. that is committed to the use of green processes. In his previous position as Marketing Manager at Bella Arte Ltd., now Boylan Marble and Terrazzo Restoration, Mr. Lanzafame authored several white papers including: Going Green: It's Old School that promoted conceptual green restoration and preservation of natural stone. Mr. Lanzafame's work contributed to a new awareness amongst natural stone restoration companies to the importance of going green.

For more information about improving the greenness of a building see the literature presented by LEED-EB (Existing Buildings) at: http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=221.

Improving the Rate of Return on the Investment in Your Building.

The natural stone restoration process used by Bella Scena Ltd. will lead to a long term reduction in the maintenance costs of your building. Reduced operating expenses in the form of reduced costs associated with the maintenance of the natural stone floors will lead to greater operating profits and the resultant increase in the rate of return on the investment in the building. The payback on the cost of restoration is earned through the reduction of custodial labor and cleaning supplies used over the long term.
